Never lose any thought: Quickly capture ideas with Talk in Superlist
Ideas hit you anywhere… on your commute, while doing chores, in a meeting, and if you don’t capture them right away, they slip away. That is why Superlist offers Talk, an AI voice-assistant feature that turns your spoken ideas into tasks, notes, or lists. Talking is faster than typing, so you never lose a spark of inspiration.
In this post we’ll explain what Talk is, how to use it, and how to set up shortcuts, widgets, and the iOS Action Button so you can start Talk immediately when you need it.
What is Talk in Superlist
Talk is a voice-assistant feature that lets you speak your tasks or notes and have them converted into actionable Superlist content. You can create tasks with due dates, subtasks, or even just freeform notes or lists on the fly.
When you speak, Superlist shows the voice recording in real time, and once you confirm, it generates task titles (or note content) based on your voice input.
How to use Talk: capturing ideas fast
Here are several ways to invoke Talk in the Superlist mobile apps (iOS & Android) so you can capture ideas the moment they arise:
Long-press the plus (+) button
On iOS and Android, long-pressing the “+” (new task / quick create) button immediately starts Talk. Microphone permissions are required.
From Inbox or Today view
In the bottom navigation bar, there’s a Talk button next to the “+New Task” button. Tap that to start verbal input, and Superlist will place the resulting tasks/notes in your Inbox or Today view.
Within any list
If you’re inside a specific list, you can also use the Talk button in the bottom bar. New tasks / notes will then go directly into that list rather than general views.
Super-fast access: Widgets & iOS Action Button
To make capturing ideas even quicker, set up shortcuts so Talk is always just one tap (or press) away.
Using Widgets (iOS & Android)
Android: Add a Superlist widget on your home screen. The widget can act as a quick-create button. Long-press the widget after placing it to configure which list it should open or show.
iOS (iPhone / iPad): Add widgets to your home screen or lock screen via long-press. Superlist offers a Quick Create widget or a List View widget. You can configure which list is shown or whether a “+” (quick create) button is included.
These widgets allow you to open Superlist and start input (task or note) very rapidly without navigating through menus.
The iOS Action Button & Shortcuts
Superlist supports the Action Button on iPhones that have one. You can set the Action Button so that pressing it triggers Talk voice input. That means even when your phone is locked (depending on settings), or without hunting through apps, one press can start capturing your thoughts by voice.
You can also add an “Open Talk” shortcut to your Control Center or assign it via Spotlight search for even faster access.
Best practices: Using Talk well
Speak clearly and include keywords like dates (“tomorrow,” “next week,” etc.) or list names so Superlist can parse them into due dates or put them into the right context.
Use Talk for both urgent tasks and random ideas. Because everything goes into Inbox / Today by default (unless you choose a list), nothing gets lost.
After using Talk, review your captures. Assign due dates, move items to lists, break down into subtasks if needed. This keeps your system clean and ensures the ideas become actionable.
Why it matters
Capturing ideas immediately helps reduce mental load and prevents forgetting what matters. Talk in Superlist turns your voice into actionable content without slowing you down. With widgets and shortcuts in place, you can make capturing thoughts frictionless—so ideas don’t get buried, you stay more productive, and your mind stays clearer.
